Atlanta
Atlanta CVB: Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Barry Real Estate Companies Inc. will develop a W Hotel in downtown’s Allen Plaza complex. The mixed-use tower is set to open in 2008 with 237 hotel rooms, 76 luxury condos and 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
In September, officials with Loews Hotels announced plans to open its first property in Atlanta. The centerpiece of 12th and Midtown, the hotel will feature 414 guest rooms and more than 24,000 square feet of meeting space.
AmericasMart Atlanta: In 2007, officials with the retail trade complex announced the facility is set to open a new two-story, 70,000-square-foot addition, including a ballroom and event facility.
Atlanta Airport Hilton: The meeting space in the 504-room hotel is scheduled to undergo renovations this year; the hotel’s new e-Events service allows planners to book up to 25 guest rooms, reserve meeting rooms and order food and beverages directly from the hotel website.
Atlanta Marriott Century Center: Following a renovation project, the 287-room hotel offers a more contemporary design and luxury bedding packages, among other amenities. 25,000 square feet of meeting space is available.
Atlanta Marriott Marquis: In 2006, the hotel began phase two of an approximately $100 million renovation and repositioning of all public areas. Completed earlier this year was the addition of a new indoor/outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Atlanta skyline.
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre: Opened on Sept. 15, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre offers the 2,750-seat John A. Williams Theatre, a 10,000-square-foot ballroom, a 6,500-square-foot Courtyard, a 2,500-square-foot Terrace, and full-service food and beverage capabilities.
Crowne Plaza Atlanta – Buckhead: The property is being remodeled and will become a W hotel in 2008. According to owners Noble Investment Group, the hotel will have 291 guest rooms, meeting space, a spa and a rooftop bar.
The Ellis on Peachtree: Newly opened hotel features space for groups of up to 25 attendees. A $28 million renovation of the former Winecoff Hotel, a historic landmark building in downtown Atlanta, the Ellis Hotel features a women’s only floor, a business center, and property-wide high-speed Internet access, as well as in-room, direct-line connections.
Evergreen Marriott Resort & Conference Center: Meeting rooms were renovated in 2006 and now include ergonomic chairs and “state-of-the-art” technology, according to marketing officials. A 6,000-square-foot ballroom is scheduled for completion in 2008.
Georgia Aquarium: A $13 million improvement will expand Oceans Ballroom.
Georgia International Convention Center: Additions estimated for completion in 2009 include two full-service convention hotels with a combined 550 rooms and an Automated People Mover that will transport travelers from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to the airport’s new Consolidated Rental Car Agency Complex. Event patrons will be able to fly into the airport, disembark and conveniently arrive at the front door of the GICC, according to center officials.
Hyatt Regency Atlanta: Following an $8 million renovation of all 1,260 guest rooms at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, the Radius Tower, formerly the Ivy Tower, opened in March 2007 with key-restricted access, according to hotel officials.
JW Marriott Hotel Buckhead Atlanta: In September, officials announced the completion of renovations to the Grand Ballroom that included enhanced ceiling structures for state-of-the-art rigging and sound-proofed air walls. The ballroom was the finale to the $4.5 million hotel renovations that began in 2005, which encompassed the 18,710 square feet of overall meeting space, lobby, indoor pool, and health club.
Renaissance Concourse Hotel: Completed $4 million in room upgrades to its 387 guest rooms. More than 34,000 square feet of meeting space is available.
The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead: The 553-room hotel completed renovation of its second-floor meeting rooms, including new 20-foot bay windows that can accommodate car displays. The hotel offers more than 22,000 square feet of space.
Sheraton Hotel Atlanta: Completion of a $45 million enhancement project included the addition of a conference center and an update to all 760 guest rooms, which now feature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Beds and wireless Internet access.
Sheraton Midtown Atlanta Hotel at Colony Square: Following an extensive $50 million renovation, the hotel will be converted into a W hotel in late 2007.
TWELVE Hotel & Residences Centennial Park: In September, this property opened its doors in Atlanta’s downtown district near CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola. The property includes 102 one- and two-bedroom hotel suites with upscale urban features.
W Atlanta Perimeter Center: The 28-story tower is slated to open in 2008 and with 237 hotel rooms, 73 condos and 10,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel will also feature a Bliss Spa and the city’s first hotel-topped heliport.
Augusta
The Partridge Inn & Conference Facilities: As of 2006, the hotel came under the management of Horst Schulze’s The West Paces Hotel Group. Also in October 2006, the hotel completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its guest rooms, exterior, meeting rooms and public spaces.
Columbus
Columbus Georgia Convention & Trade Center: Recently underwent a $35 million expansion that doubled its size. The facility offers 30 multi-use function spaces.
Macon
Macon - Bibb County CVB: The Armory Ballroom, built in 1885, has been renovated into a rental facility that can seat up to 330, theater style. The Macon Auditorium sits adjacent to the ballroom.
Set for completion in 2008 is the expansion of the Harriet Tubman African American Museum, where 49,000 square feet of public space is being added. Six of the 12 galleries included in the new space will be available for groups.
Savannah
Savannah Area CVB: The city is currently welcoming an extension of the downtown historic district through the mixed-use development Savannah River Landing. The Shops at Savannah River Landing will serve as the core of the 54-acre development on the banks of the Savannah River. Other projects planned for the area include two hotels, restaurants, offices and residences.
