Insider's Guide to Charleston

By Barbie Perkins-Cooper

Charleston, South Carolina, a city famous for hospitality, history, and Southern charm is the ‘Top U. S. City in the United States’ according to Condè Nast Traveler magazine’s 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards. Charleston is truly a visitor’s paradise, a Southern city filled with rich, award-winning restaurants, and hotels. “The people of Charleston are honored by their selection as Condè Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice No. 1 Top U. S. Destination,” said Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. “We love to share our extensive heritage and tradition of hospitality. It is thrilling to see that the visitors who come here not only enjoy what they see and experience, they find an open welcome from the city. Great food and lovely hotels add much to the enjoyment of our guests who come for either a day or a week. We look forward to the opportunity to show visitors what makes Charleston a great place to visit.”

Charleston offers a cornucopia of attractions, plantations, horse drawn carriages in the downtown historic district, cruises, the Atlantic Ocean, and so much more. Charleston is a port for many cruise ships, including Carnival. The cruise ships dock at the Charleston Passenger Terminal, located on the harbor at Market Street and they are a beauty to admire while touring downtown.
