There’s good energy in Houston these days, said John Solis, interim vice president of sales of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). “We are growing in all areas, and all indicators are very encouraging. Airline mergers have enhanced our service to new markets, and METRORail, our light rail system, is looking to open three or four new lines in the next several years. Any event planner that has not visited Houston in the past five years will be pleasantly surprised. Our product has greatly improved and there is commitment to continue down that path.”
About 15 minutes north of the airport, The Woodlands is a planned community with shopping, dining, entertainment, golf and water features, plus more than 1,400 hotel rooms and 150,000 square feet of combined function space. This spring, the Woodlands CVB debuted a new, interactive website that features up-to-the-minute social media feeds for Twitter and Facebook as well as a tailored section for meeting planners or travel-related businesses. “The website is a front door to The Woodlands and establishes the area as a quality getaway with a variety of things to do year round,” said CVB General Manager Casey Snyder.
