Northeast Tennessee

By T. Wayne Waters

Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol, Tenn., present a tantalizing trio of possibilities for groups because of two major factors:
1. These cities have some excellent meeting facilities like the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport; and
2. The interesting attractions, not the least of which is the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountain backdrop and the historic ambiance of the region.

And it seems both these advantages will soon fuse together as Mark Unick, the destination sales executive for MeadowView, just told us that a new on-site winery project is in the works. “We are working with Reedy Creek Vineyards in the hopes of opening, by mid-summer, an on-property working and producing winery. The grapes will be brought in by the truckload and go through the wine-making process and then we’ll also do the bottling and the labeling on property. We’re very excited about this new opportunity for us. We’ll have, as I understand it, the only working winery in a hotel or resort in all of Tennessee.”
