Insider's Guide to New Orleans Meeting Sites

The Big Easy needs no introduction. Everybody knows how special New Orleans is. Everybody knows about the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, jazz and zydeco, Cajun music and cooking, gumbo grits and greens. Thing is, you couldn't begin to experience everything The Crescent City has to offer if you came for a whole month, much less for the duration of a brief convention. But you sure could get a mighty good taste of itand, oh yeah, some work done, too.

One of the Big Easy's most prominent hotel operations is the New Orleans Hotel Collection, a group of seven small upscale meeting and boutique hotels owned by local investors. Included in the collection are:

  • The Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport: 292 rooms; 11,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and a dedicated Crowne Plaza meetings director for meetings.
  • Wyndham Riverfront New Orleans: 200 rooms in historic building; more than 3,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • Bourbon Orleans Hotel: 218 French Quarter suites and rooms; 7,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • Dauphine Orleans Hotel: 111 French Quarter rooms; 300 square feet of meeting space onsite but works with Musee Conti Wax Museum to offer another 4,800 square feet.
  • Hotel Mazarin: 102 French Quarter rooms; adjacent to its meeting facility, La Louisiane, which can handle up to 30 conference style or 140 theater style.
  • Hotel Le Marais: 66 French Quarter rooms; executive retreat meeting space for ten.

Jefferson Parish

Jefferson parish runs from the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain just northwest of city center and down some 30 miles south of downtown in a relatively narrow swath. It is part of the Greater New Orleans Area.

The parish's largest city, Kenner, is home to Pontchartrain Convention & Civic Center, a facility with three exhibition halls offering 46,000 square feet of exhibit space, six meeting rooms with nearly 15,000 square feet, an atrium lobby with 9,700 square feet, and a 25,000-square-foot glassed mezzanine lobby. The convention center's parking area can accommodate more than 1,200 vehicles.

St. Tammany Parish

Just across Lake Pontchartrain from downtown New Orleans is Northshore, a multifaceted area in the St. Tammany Parish. A major meeting center sits on the shore of the lake in Slidell, just across the I10 bridge from the Big Easy and conveniently close to its intersection with I12. The 45,000-square-foot Northshore Harbor Center boasts 18,000 square feet of flexible meeting and exhibit space. The facility's Grand Hall can provide theater seating for 2,000 or banquet seating for 1,000 with direct access to a drive-in ramp door coming from the loading dock.
