South Texas

Want to give attendees a place to bask in the sun during the cooler months of the year? The sub-tropical climate of south Texas makes the region a welcoming haven for meetings during the shoulder seasons. In fact, we checked the temperature in McAllen in late September and the high was 95 degrees. Along with McAllen, destinations include Brownsville, Harlingen, South Padre Island, Corpus Christi, Port Aransas and Laredo.

It's not wonder that McAllen, Texas, with it's almost year-round sub-tropical climate, is where the heart of the "World Birding Center" can be located. In addition to being a birding paradise, the city's ideal weather also allows you to take advantage of other various outdoor recreational activities like golfing, fishing, camping and hunting. If indoor activities like shopping are more your cup of tea, you'll rejoice in knowing that McAllen has more than 40 retail centers to choose from and also ranks number on in the nation for retail sales per capita.

Laredo is said to be a place where two world's meet, providing groups with a true Tex-Mex experience, especially when it comes to savoring authentic Mexican cuisine. And not only are there numerous Mexican restaurants, but also plenty of places to meet. The Laredo Energy Arena, managed by SMG, is a multi-purpose facility with a 178,000-square-foot facility with 32,000 square feet of continuous open-floor space, six meeting rooms and a private club.

Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi is the largest coastal city in the Lone Star State, including Upper Padre Island within the city limits. This growing seaside destination has over 300-square-miles of waterfront. Home to the longest undeveloped barrier island in the United States, Corpus Christi treasures the natural beauty of over 120 miles of pristine beaches along Upper Padre Island awaiting groups to soak up the scenery. When you meet in Corpus Christi, your group can truly have it all – a first-class vacation, a down-to-business convention with the latest audiovisual technology, and a thriving city center to enjoy shopping, dining and entertainment.

Rio Grande Valley's Brownsville & Harlingen

The Southernmost tip of Texas is known as the Rio Grande Valley and is comprised of the cities of McAllen, Brownsville and Harlingen. Bordering the Rio Grande River, Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, groups will find plenty of cultural activities and outdoor recreation.

Brownsville is the largest city in valley and provides an historic downtown district and the Gladys Porter Zoo.

Harlingen is home to Valley International Airport, the newly renovated Reese Hotel, the Casa del Sol and the Casa de Amistad.

Port Aransas

Just outside of Corpus Christi, you'll find the beach community of Port Aransas.

Meeting venues offer a variety of options, ranging from traditional motels and cottages to luxury homes and condominiums. The newly opened Hampton Inn offers 78 guest rooms and 2,200 square feet of meeting space.
